I’m pleased to have received an update on the £5.8million Community Diagnostics Centre set to open at FGH this summer. The new centre will help us drive down waiting times, free up appointments, and reduce the number of patients having to travel for diagnostic tests.
The unit will have an MRI Scanning Suite along with all the support services including a prep area, recovery area, patient change, control room, reception and waiting area, as well as three clinic rooms. It will increase the number of diagnostic tests available, making it quicker and easier to access potentially life-saving tests for a wide range of conditions, including cancer.
This is positive news for FGH and for local patients. Maximum NHS waiting times went up to 18 months under the last Government, and increasing the numbers of Community Diagnostic Centres is part of Labour’s plan for change which will bring maximum waiting times down to 18 weeks by the end of this Parliament.
