The Prime Minster has today committed to releasing land at Moorside for new nuclear power generation. This is huge news for our area!
Unlocking land at Moorside has long been the biggest barrier to securing new nuclear power generation in West Cumbria, with the Conservatives previously blocking a £6 billion private nuclear development there in 2023.
I have been working with Josh MacAlister MP and the other Labour MPs in West Cumbria to secure release of the land because of the benefit that would be felt right across the area from investment in new nuclear power.
I will continue to work with the Cumberland Nuclear Futures Board to ensure Pioneer Park is a success and delivers real and lasting benefits for our area.
This takes us a step closer to new nuclear power generation in West Cumbria and is all part of the Labour Government’s announcement today of the biggest nuclear building programme in a generation.
