I met with Nuclear Waste Services (NSW) to get an update on the community outreach they are doing as they explore potential future sites for a Geological Disposal Facility.
They have now published details of their Areas of Focus (sub-surface, surface and accessways) within the three communities of Mid Copeland, South Copeland in Cumbria, and Theddlethorpe in Lincolnshire.
They are holding a series of events in local communities to talk about what this means for them and all information can be found here https://www.nuclearwasteservices.uk/…/areas-of-focus…/
The policy is clear; the programme to build a future GDF will not go ahead without the explicit support of local people. These exploratory stages are an opportunity for NWS to make sure people have the information they need to make an informed decision.
