Michelle Scrogham, MP for Barrow and Furness, met with the team at Furness Building Society to hear about their exciting plans for the future, and to discuss the role they can play supporting local redevelopment alongside the government’s £200m transformation investment in our area.

The local MP met with Furness Building Society chief executive Chris Harrison and chief commercial officer Simon Broadley at the firm’s headquarters in Emlyn Hughes House, Abbey Road.

Mrs Scrogham said: “I started my career in high street banking and like many locals our first mortgage was with the Furness – I know how important an institution they are locally. They have a long and proud history as well as an important role to play in our area’s future.

“It was great to hear of their plans to support families and communities as a bright future beckons for our area – with a growing population and exciting development plans.

“The Furness is bucking the trend nationally by investing in its branch network and looking to provide more services to people in the high street – their model is one that puts local communities at its heart and I think that should be welcome and supported.”
