24% of fatal or serious injury collisions in Britain involve 17 to 24-year-olds. Yesterday, I attended a meeting with Protect Young Drivers for MPs, national services, charities and bereaved families who are all committed to reducing young driver crashes and improving safety for young people on Britain’s roads.
Among the bereaved families was Sharron Huddleston. Sharron lost her daughter, Caitlin, in a car crash on the A595 in July 2017 alongside her friend who was driving, Skye. Both Caitlin and Skye were 18 when they died. Since then, Sharron has been working tirelessly for measures to protect young drivers and I’ve been working with her since becoming elected to push for graduated driving licensing to avoid these preventable tragedies.
