A major energy project which could bring jobs and investment to Barrow and Furness has taken some significant steps forward in recent days.
EnergyPathways is moving ahead with its nationally important MESH (Marram Energy Storage Hub) project. MESH is set to become Britain’s largest integrated energy storage facility, and will put Barrow at the heart of the UK’s future energy system.
The company has just secured an important Gas Storage Licence and is now working with Associated British Ports (ABP) to explore using the Royal Port of Barrow as the main onshore hub for the project.
What does this mean? MESH will store energy in different ways, including air, gas and hydrogen, so it can be used when we really need it. It’s designed to make better use of renewable energy, help bring down energy costs, and make the UK less dependent on imported gas.
This is part of the work to diversify our local economy and will bring major investment, new facilities, and more high-skilled jobs to our area – plus position us as a key player in the clean energy industry.
