Michelle and Nick, Ambassador of The Burnt Chef Project
Cumbria’s Burnt Chef Project Ambassador, Nick Hall, met with me to discuss the too-often hidden mental health impact of working in hospitality.
From cheffing to serving, the long hours, demanding shift patterns and sometimes the culture can take a hefty toll.
The Burnt Chef Project aims to promote awareness of the impact that hospitality jobs can have on your mental health, and offers support for those suffering.
Spreading the word is essential. 84% of hospitality professionals have experienced mental health issues in their careers, with 46% feeling uncomfortable discussing these problems with colleagues. It’s an issue which cannot be ignored, especially as on average 1 in 7 people contacting Burnt Chef mention suicide.
With Cumbria having 3.4K people working in hospitality, the Burnt Chef Project feels vital.
It was great meeting Nick and I want to work with him to make the hospitality sector a kinder and more considerate space to work.
