Statement on Sir Keir Starmer’s resignation as Prime Minister
Keir has led a government delivering on the change that we promised when I was elected two years ago – sorting out the mess in the public finance, lowering NHS waiting times, reducing child poverty, and delivering more rights for workers and renters.
Clearly there is impatience about the pace of change, something that I share, and I think that Keir has made an honourable decision to put the interest of country first and resign so that we can have an orderly transition to a new Prime Minister who can take that challenge on. What is most important is that we do not mess around, this needs sorting out quickly so that we can get on with the job we were elected to do.
