Elected Chair of the Cardiac Risk in the Young APPG

I chose to stand for Chair because of local mothers Lesley Mease, who lost her son Wilson aged 25, and Donna Parker, who lost her daughter Vicky aged 30. Both Wilson and Vicky died from unexpected cardiac problems. Lesley and Donna now work together to raise funds to put towards screenings for young people to catch any underlying or unknown heart problems. I hugely admire their ongoing dedication to make sure no other young person dies from an unknown heart problem.

While an APPG cannot make government policy, as Chair, I can represent the APPG publicly, set out the group’s priorities and agenda, and can build support and awareness across Parliament.

I want to thank Lesley, Donna and everyone else who raises funds and awareness for Cardiac Risk in the Young. I look forward to working with them again in the near future.
