It’s excellent to see the University of Cumbria named as a founding member of the new Defence Universities Alliance (DUA), putting our area at the heart of the UK’s future defence skills, research and innovation agenda. The alliance brings together 35 leading universities to work with government, industry and the Armed Forces to develop the workforce and technologies our country needs.
This is exactly why I’ve been pushing for stronger links between defence, education and skills in Barrow. As we continue building Barrow’s reputation as a university town and a centre of excellence for defence, opportunities like this will help local people access high-quality training, research and careers right on their doorstep.
Congratulations to everyone at the University of Cumbria on this well-deserved achievement!
