GSK Ulverston Donation – Share Your Views
A Task Force has been convened by local MP, Michelle Scrogham, to look at the support provided to staff, local suppliers, and the local community following the announcement earlier this year of the closure of the GSK Ulverston site, anticipated for June 2025.
The group will coordinate planning around future use of the site, the breadth of options for support to staff, and agreeing next steps with local investment of a £2m legacy donation that was reconfirmed to the group by GSK.
The first meeting of the Task Force concluded that the Ulverston community should be consulted on best use of the £2m donation and how it should benefit the Town.
This is an opportunity to help shape how the donation is spent to benefit the wider Ulverston community, and the community task force would very much welcome the views of local people. Ulverston residents are therefore being asked to share their views on significant projects that will provide education, culture, or leisure benefits for future generations of the people of Ulverston.
A report summarising submissions will be published and used by the Task Force to create a shortlist of options. A decision on the use of the funding will be made by June 2025 once work has been done to make sure proposals meet GSK governance requirements including assessing for any conflicts of interest. Any proposals will need to be for an organisation that is eligible and reputable and has the appropriate capabilities and licences to conduct the activity. Donations are not given to individuals.
Deadline is 5pm, Friday 17th January.
