We’ve needed proper CCTV in Barrow town centre for ages, and now it is finally going to happen.
I am pleased that, following meetings with Barrow Neighbourhood policing team, local businesses, councillors, community groups, residents and PFCC David Allen, it has now been confirmed that a new network of CCTV cameras will be installed.
This is being funded by Team Barrow and being delivered in partnership with Cumbria Police. These will make the town safer, acting as a deterrent to anti-social behaviour.
The Barrow Neighbourhood policing team has been working hard to bring down the number of anti social behaviour incidents in Barrow Town Centre. Getting more officers back out on the beat through Operation Enhance is making a difference and the numbers are going in the right direction. However, clearly there are a residual level of incidents which are continuing to affect residents, businesses, and the vitality of the town centre.
To help tackle this, I brought together Barrow Town Centre Anti-Social Behaviour Action Group to come up with concrete actions that will make a difference. Following initial meetings I was pleased to get agreement on a number of practical actions including this introduction of street-level CCTV in the town centre.
