My priorities
I’m about community and the success of Furness. We’ve been let down and left behind, with our communities becoming some of the poorest in the country. We need strength and a voice that will fight for Furness.
You can read more about my latest work on my priorities on the ‘My Campaigns‘ page.
Protect our NHS and put it back on its feet again after years of neglect
That includes opposing the permanent downgrade of level 3 ICU at Furness General, and instead making the hospital a priority for investment with improved services.
Regenerate our High Streets
£90m of Team Barrow’s £200m is dedicated to improving the centre of Barrow.
The way we shop has changed, and our high streets should reflect that with spaces for leisure and socialising.
So many people rely on our high streets and I want to see them thriving again across Barrow and Furness.
Support our defence industry, brave armed-forces personnel and veterans
Through my position on the Defence Committee, as Chair of the AUKUS All Party Parliamentary Group, and as officer in the All-Party Defence Group I will stand up for our country’s important defence industry, our armed forces and veterans in Parliament.
Prime Minister Andy Burnham came to Barrow less than two weeks into his job. Barrow and defence are one of his priorities.
Unlock potential for green jobs in Furness
Our unique geography and manufacturing expertise means we can become a national leader in the green-energy transition which will bring jobs and investment.
I will push forward plans for new hydrogen power innovation, a floating solar park, upgrades to the offshore wind industry, and carbon storage facilities making use of the depleted gas fields in Morecambe Bay.
Get buses, roads, and rail working for you
Our towns have some of the worst transport links in the country. The A590 and A595 are not fit for purpose and our train and bus infrastructure is a joke – all this is holding us back.
I am working with local MPs and government to push forward plans for improving our rail as well as our roads.
