IWD Parade outside the Women
IWD Parade outside the Women's Community Matters at the Nan Tait

Happy International Women’s Day!

I was happy to join many others in the parade in Barrow led by Boom Dang, from the town hall to Women’s Community Matters at the Nan Tait centre, where I spoke with the fantastic team who support so many women in Barrow.

I visited the Bridge on Portland walk to see all the stalls celebrating women, met children enjoying the craft tables and picking up the latest addition in local comics which feature our very own Georgia Stanway.

Labour is the party of women’s rights, from delivering the Equal Pay Act in 1970, to the Equality Act in 2010. Our rights were hard fought and should never be taken for granted. I’m incredibly proud of the work this government is currently doing to prevent violence against women and girls, which has been opposed at all stages of the bill by the Conservatives and Reform. “Deeds not words”.
