£1.5 million of investment to strengthen fire and rescue capability in Barrow

The best results in politics are often achieved long before the headlines appear.

Over recent months, we have worked closely with Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service to make the case that, as Barrow’s role at the heart of Britain’s defence industry continues to grow, investment in our emergency services must grow with it. That has meant working behind the scenes with ministers and Government, backed by the detailed operational evidence developed by the Fire and Rescue Service, to ensure Barrow’s voice was heard.

We are delighted that this work has resulted in £1.5 million of investment to strengthen fire and rescue capability in our town.

This is about far more than funding for the Fire and Rescue Service. It is about backing Barrow’s future.

As investment in defence brings new opportunities to our town, it will support more jobs, attract further investment and strengthen Barrow’s place at the centre of one of Britain’s most important industries. But that growth must be matched by investment in the public services that keep our communities safe.

This funding will help ensure Barrow has a stronger, more resilient Fire and Rescue Service, giving reassurance to residents, supporting local businesses and protecting the nationally significant infrastructure that underpins our local economy.

It is also an example of what can be achieved when local representatives and public services work together with a shared purpose. By combining the operational expertise of Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service with determined engagement with ministers, we have secured an investment that will benefit Barrow for years to come.

There is still more to do, and we will continue making the case for our town at every opportunity. But this investment sends a clear message: Barrow matters, and by working together we can secure the investment that creates opportunity, supports jobs and helps build a safer, stronger future for everyone.
